GT vs MI 2024 Highlights: Hardik Pandya who led the team this season was expected to break Mumbai’s jinx of losing the first game which they made a habit since 2013 but the new skipper also became the victim as Mumbai lost the game by 6 runs.
As per IPL 2024 Schedule, Mumbai will face Gujarat Titans to play their first game on March 24 in Ahmedabad.
Gujarat Titans beats Mumbai Indians by 6 Runs
Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bowl first. While everyone expected Bumrah to open the attack, captain Hardik Pandya took the responsibilities and bowled the first over of the game.
In his very first over, his former teammates Saha and Gill each smashed a boundary and scored a total of 11 runs in the over. Hardik who bowled the third over of the game gave boundaries off his first two deliveries and finished the over after spelling 9 runs.
Mumbai’s senior spinner Chawla bagged the first wicket of the match by dismissing GT skipper Shubman Gill for 31 runs, following his dismissal, Bumrah dismissed Saha for 19 runs while Gujarat titans scored 64 runs in 7.4 overs.
Gujarat Titans’ new recruiter Azmatullah Omarzai scored 17 runs from 11 deliveries before being dismissed from Gerald Coetzee, his maiden IPL wicket. At the end of 20 overs, Gujarat Titans scored 168 runs for 6 wickets loss.
For Mumbai Indians, Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan opened the inning but failed to lay a strong opening partnership. GT’s Azmatullah dismissed Ishan Kishan for duck and drew the first blood for the team.
Soon after Naman Dhir lost his wicket to Azmatullah when he scored 20 runs of 10 deliveries. With a couple of early wickets, things become complex for the Mumbai Indians deck.
But Mumbai’s former skipper and South African hard hitter Dewald Brevis made a 77-run partnership for the next wicket and posed a great threat for GT. Youngster Sai Kishore broke the partnership by dismissing Rohit Sharma for 43 runs while Dewald Brevis was also dismissed for 46 when Mumbai scored 129 runs.
Without an impact from Mumabi’s lower-order batters, the five-time champions fell 6 runs short of registering their first victory of the season. Sadly, their losing streak continues with an extra entry.
Notably, MI won their first IPL trophy in 2013 in which the Mumbai-based franchise lost their first match of the season. Moreover, Mumbai won all their 5 trophies with a first-match defeat in the respective seasons.
Sai Kishore was crowned the player of the match for his impressive 45 runs off 39 deliveries.
