England Docked WTC Points for Slow Over-Rate in Lord’s Test

England has been docked two World Test Championship points for slow-over rate during the side’s 22-run victory in the 3rd Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

England has fallen 24 points to 22 on the WTC points table, and the percentage points have slipped from 66.67% to 61.11% taking them down a spot from second to third, behind Australia and Sri Lanka.

England were also fined 10% of their match fees for falling short of the allotted time for over rates.

As per the article 16.11.2 of the WTC playing conditions, a side is penalised one point for each over short after time allowance are taken into consideration.

England captain Ben Stokes pleaded guilty to the offence, which meant there was no need for formal hearing.

The hosts went on edge the visitors to secure a lead 2-1 after a narrow 22-run victory at Lord’s.

Ben Stokes was named as the Player of the Match for his all-round effort, accepted the sanction without dispute. He bowled 24 overs in India’s second innings more than any other English bowler taking three crucial wickets, including KL Rahul and made valuable contributions with the bat in a low-scoring game where runs were scarce.

England set a 193 run target and despite a close chase, England clinched victory by dismissing them for 170 runs on the final day.

The fourth test will be played between July 23 and 27 in Manchester, with both teams battling not only for series success but also for every WTC point – and every minute on the clock.
