Former wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik has taken a jibe at ex-India coach Ravi Shastri during a live podcast appearance.
He made a cheeky dig at how Ravi Shastri ended his Test career in 2018 at Lord’s Test. Karthik made a test comeback in June 2018, filling in for the injured first-choice wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha for India’s Test against Afghanistan.
He has racked up runs in both domestic cricket and white-ball internationals for India, and the selectors eventually decided to take him to the summer’s tour of England as well.
However, he struggled to bat as he scored 0 and 20 at Edgbaston and 1 and 0 at Lord’s.
“The first thing is, I feel there’s not much in common between me and Nas (Hussain), and I’d like to keep it that way,” said Dinesh Karthik.

“But sadly, he finished in Lord’s and I finished in Lord’s, the only difference being he went and knocked on the coach’s door, saying, ‘I think I am done’. In my case, the coach came and said, ‘Don’t bother coming for the next Test, I think you are done’,” he added.
Dinesh Karthik was dropped from the second Test, where India went with young Rishabh Pant off an excellent season in the IPL.
Despite struggling with gloves, he batting was undeniably special, earning him the status of Saha’s competition.
Dinesh Karthik and Ravi Shastri are currently in England and the podcast was shot before the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
The series is at interesting phase where both England and India replying a historic win at Edgbaston. Rishabh Pant is one of the best wicketkeeper in country, which has played a pivotal role scoring 342 runs across four innings.
Dinesh Karthik’s international career was ended after he played in final ODI at the 2019 World Cup semifinal, he turned his focus seamlessly into commentary and coaching.
He was the batting coach and mentor of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in 2025 where the franchise secured their maiden IPL title under the leadership of Rajat Patidar.
