Craig McMillan named as New Zealand Women’s team Assistant Coach

The 47-year-old Craig Douglas McMillan has been appointed as the Assistant Coach for the New Zealand Women’s team for the next two years.

McMillan has played 260 international matches between 1997 and 2007 and will be working along head coach Ben Sawyer with England’s tour as his first assignment. The New Zealand Women’s tour of England consists of a three-match ODI series and a match T20I series played between June 26 and July 17.

He has previously served as batting coach for New Zealand Men’s batting team between 2014 and 2019. During his designation, New Zealand reached finals twice in the ODI World Cup. He had also served as fielding coach for Kings Xl Punjab in the IPL 2018 season. He was a batting consultant for Canterbury last season.

New Zealand Women’s Head Coach Ben Sawyer has been delighted to welcome McMillan as the coach for the New Zealand women’s team.

“He’s a proven coach with an extensive international playing career. The players are excited to start working with Craig; they’re looking forward to having him on board for the upcoming tour to England,” said New Zealand Women’s Head Coch, Sawyer.

Craig McMillan also expressed his gratitude for joining the National Women’s team as assistant coach.

“I’m rapt with the appointment and to be back involved in coaching international cricket again. It’ll be great to be part of the White Ferns family as we head into a busy nine-month schedule with some exciting challenges ahead. I’ve watched these talented players a lot from close quarters over the past few seasons and can’t wait to join the management team in driving the group forward,” said McMillan.

After completing the England tour, New Zealand will travel to Australia to play a three-match T20I series in September before playing in the T20 World Cup in October. The first match of the ODI series against England will be played on June 26 at Chester-le-Street, Riverside Ground.
