Ahead of India’s tour of Zimbabwe 2024, Cricket Zimbabwe have appointed Charl Langeveldt as their new bowling coach. Previously, ZC had named Justin Sammons as the head coach and Dion Ebrahim as the batting coach.

Langeveldt has been part of the South Africa Coaching team in two stints and also serves as the bowling coach of Punjab Kings in IPL. According to reports, the change in the officials was due to the team’s failure to qualify for the recently concluded ICC Men’s T20 World Cup which resulted in the resignation of Dave Houghton. The appointments were approved by the Mhishi Committee of Inquiry.

In his absence, Walter Chawaguta had taken over the role of head coach temporarily, before Matsikenyeri stepped in to prepare for the tour against Bangladesh in April.

“All the appointments were made in consultation with Sammons, who also opted to retain Stuart Matsikenyeri, although he now assumes the role of Fielding Coach, while Amato Machikicho will continue serving as the team’s Physiotherapist,” said the statement.

Langevelst’s recent stint in internationals comes with Afghanistan until the end of ODI World Cup 2023. He also has served in the coaching set-ups of Bangladesh and South Africa.

South African Ravish Gobind and Curtly Diesel have come on board as Strategic performance coach and Strength and conditioning coach respectively, with ZC is yet to finalize the appointment of the Team manager.

Zimbabwe is set to play a five-match T20I series starting on July 06. With Shubman Gill-led India squad traveling to Zimbabwe on July 02, both sides will be preparing for a new journey.

All five matches will be played at the Harare Sports Club. The first match of the T20I series will kickstart at 04:30 PM IST on July 06.
