Charith Asalanka smashed his 4th ODI century to help the side revive from the regular dismissal during the 1st ODI match of Australia’s tour of Sri Lanka 2025.

With his splendid 127-run knock off 126 deliveries, Sri Lanka was able to post a total of 214 in 46 overs where they lost all their 10 wickets. Asalanka’s knock now marks the second-highest individual score by any Sri Lanka Cricketer in ODIs while batting at number 05.

He fell short 12 runs behind Angelo Matthews, who had 139* runs from 116 deliveries against India in Ranchi in November 2014.

His ninth wicket stand with Eshan Malinga was a stadium record of 79, even though the tailender made just a solitary run from 26 balls.

After a resounding 2-0 sweep in the test series, Australia showed no signs of easing up despite missing several key players.

Australia’s bid to win the Champions Trophy has been dealt a major setback with their formidable pace attack of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc all ruled out.

Sean Abbott took three wickets for 61 runs while Spencer Johnson, Aaron Hardie and Nathan Ellis picked two wickets each and Matt Short picked one wicket.

During his sensational knock, Charith Asalanka achieved a massive feat as he broke Sanath Jayasuriya‘s record of highest score by a Sri Lankan captain in ODIs against Australia.
