This will be the first assignment for Mitchell Santner as New Zealand’s full time captain.
“It’s obviously an exciting time for Bevon and his family,” New Zealand selector Sam Wells said.
“He’s a promising player with a lot of talent and we’re looking forward to exposing him to international cricket. He’s clearly got a lot of power with the bat, but he’s also shown in the longer formats that he has a decent technique and temperament.”
Zac Foulkes, Mitch Hay and Tim Robinson will get to feature in a home series for the first time after making their debuts away from home earlier this year.
Hay is part of both T20I and ODI squads and will be keeping gloves in T20Is. He has been picked as the batting and keeping cover for Tom Latham who will be joining the side for ODI.
Will O’Rourke and Will Young will be playing in ODIs with O’Rourke beng rested for T20is with a views of managing his workload.
Former wicketkeeper-batter Luke Ronchi will be head coach for this assignment as Gary Stead taking a break. The first match of the T20I in Sri Lanka tour of New Zealand 2024-25 begins on December 28 at Bay Oval.
