After the success of WPL, BCCI has planned to create opportunities for women’s red-ball cricket in the domestic circuit in the country. They are set to organize a six-team zonal red-ball format in Pune.

This tournament will be reflecting the multi-day format tournament. The tournament is set to begin on March 29 and the quarters will be played on 30 and 31.

The winners of the quarter-finals will be playing in the semifinals between April 5 and 7. Then the finals will be played on April 9, 10 and 11.

The three-day fixtures will be a significant trail for Women’s players as well as BCCI. It will serve as a trial of whether BCCI can encourage players to participate in domestic tournaments.

BCCI has been successful with men’s tournaments across the country and wants the same kind of involvement in the Women’s circuit.

India women have played a few red ball tournaments on the England Women’s tour of India in 2023 and the Australia women’s tour of India in 2023 where Indian women emerged as victorious.

Coming to the WPL 2024, the tournament has witnessed several thriller matches with Delhi Capitals at the top of the points table.

They won two out of three matches they played in the tournament. Other teams like RCB and MI have also won two matches but stand below DC due to the net run rate.

Despite standing second in the points table, RCB player Smrti Mandhana currently tops the list of most runs followed by her teammate Meghana in the tournament.

UP Warriorz and Gujarat Giants will be playing the next match on the WPL 2024 schedule on March 01 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
