The Board of Control for Cricket in India has scheduled a meeting with IPL Owners on April 16 and invitations for the meeting have been sent to all IPL franchises. It is expected that Owners will be accompanied by their CEO and operational teams for the meeting.

BCCI President Roger Binny, Secretary Jay Shah, and IPL Chairman Arun Singh Arun Dhumal will be attending the meeting. The correspondence meeting is believed to have been sent by Hemang Amin, the CEO of the IPL.

Hemang has not specified the agenda for the meeting, it is expected to discuss about Mega auction, the salary cap of players, retention, and whether to include RTM or not.

“They will discuss the way forward for the IPL,” said a source. The topic has divided the IPL ecosystem, with different owners holding varying views.

Some IPL owners believe that the number of retention should be increased, arguing that teams have established and require continuity to bolster their brand and fan base.

Another group has opposed such retentions and prefers small numbers. There will be an introduction about reintroducing the Right to Match Card, which was used previously, but was not used in the mega auction in the 2022 season.

At that time, only four were permitted, with a maximum of three Indians or two foreigners. There will also discussion about Salary Cap, which differs opinions among various sections in the IPL setup.

During the IPL 2024 mini-auction, the cap was set at INR 100 crores but is expected to increase considering the uplift in teams’ revenue after BCCI signed an INR 48,390 Crors broadcast deal two years ago.

The meeting will be concurrently held during the 31st match of the IPL 2024 schedule between Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
