BCB Appoints Mushtaq Ahmed as New Spin Bowling Coach

Bangladesh Cricket Board(BCB) have named former Pakistan leg-spinner and World Cup winner Mushtaq Ahmed as their new spin-bowling coach. According to the report, Mushtaq Ahmed will be with the Bangladesh Cricket team until the end of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and USA.

Mushtaq Ahmed Named as New Spin Bowling Coach for Bangladesh Cricket Team

Mushtaq Ahmed will replace Rangana Herath as the spin bowling coach after the Sri Lankan left the position following the opening Test against New Zealand.

The Pakistan-born will join the team ahead of the preparation camp scheduled later this month for the T20 series against Zimbabwe.

Mushtaq Ahmed also worked with the England men’s cricket team between 2008 and 2014 as a spin bowling coach. He also worked in two stints for his national team: as a bowling consultant from 2014 to 2016 and as a spin bowling coach from 2020 to 2022.

“It is a great honour for me to be a part of the Bangladesh cricket team as a spin bowling coach. I am looking forward to the role and want to pass my experience to the players because they are very coachable and I always believe that they are one of the most dangerous teams around,” Mushtaq was quoted in a BCB press release.

“They can beat anyone because they have the capability, the resources and the talent. I will try to instil that belief into them. I am very excited at the opportunity to work with the team,” he concluded.

Before the start of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, Bangladesh will host Zimbabwe next month in a five-match T20I series and also will tour the USA to play 3 T20I matches between May 20 – 24.

During his cricket career, Mushtaq Ahmed played 52 Tests, 144 ODIs and bagged 185 and 161 wickets and scored 656 and 399 runs respectively.
