The ACB has announced a 22-member Afghanistan preliminary squad for Asia Cup 2025, which is set to begin on September 9 in the United Arab Emirates.
All the players will be training for two weeks as part of the Preparations camp in the UAE. Most of the players who have been picked were recently busy featuring in the Shpageeza Cricket League, the domestic T20 tournament in Afghanistan.
Experienced spinner Rashid Khan will be captaining the side, where Azmatullah Omarzai, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Fazalhaq Farooqi and Mohammad Nabi were included.
Wafiullah Tarakhil, Abdullah Ahmadzai and Bashir Ahmad also earned call-ups in the preliminary squad and could be in contention for their maiden debut.

Afghanistan has been placed in Group B along Hong Kong, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. They will open their campaign against Hong Kong in Abu Dhabi, followed by key encounters with Bangladesh and Sri Lanka on 16 and 18 respectively.
Afghanistan have reached the semi finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 beating some of the big teams. They would likley to aim to replicate their form and win the Asia Cup 2025.
They are second team to announce their squad after Bangladesh for the continental tournament.
