The India wk-batter Sanju Samson has been cleared to resume his wicketkeeping and captaincy duties for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in IPL 2025.
According to the report, he has cleared the fitness tests at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). “Yes, he cleared the final fitness tests at the NCA,” said a BCCI source.
Samsoon injured his finger during the home T20I series against England and underwent surgery. The RR captain underwent surgery on his right index finger and was only given limited clearance to play in the IPL 2025 season.
He participated as a specialist batter in the first three games. Riyan Parag took charge over RR captain while Dhruv Jurel handled wicketkeeping duties. Samson impressed with a half century (66) against Sunrisers Hyderbad, but it came in a losing cause.
He scored 13 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and 20 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

The inaugural IPL champions bounced back with their first victory of the season against CSK in Guwahati. Samson has yet to over the wicketkeeping role from Dhruv Jurel in their upcoming matches of the tournament.
“Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has received clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to resume wicketkeeping duties following a period of recovery. The clearance comes after a thorough assessment of his fitness by the NCA medical team,” Rajasthan’s media statement read.
“With this positive development, Samson will return to his full leadership role and resume captaincy from the team’s next match against the Punjab Kings. The franchise is encouraged by Samson’s progress and looks forward to having him back in action behind the stumps and leading the side.”
The Royals suffered a defeat in the opener match against Sunrisers Hyderabad in a high scoring contest before suffering a defeat against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders at their home ground in Guwahati.
Rajasthan Royals will play their next match against Punjab Kings against Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium.
