The Delhi Capitals suffers major blow as KL Rahul is likely to miss the first two games in the IPL 2025 season due to the birth of his first child with his wife Athiya Shetty.
Rahul confirmed that he would become the first time father just after India’s triumphant run at the Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai.
Australia women’s captain Alyssa Healy, who also happens to be the wife of Mitchell Starc, joined the Capitals camp earlier this week and shared this piece of news.
She made the revelation while previewing the franchise in a YouTube channel.
“No Harry Brook, (so) it will be interesting to see who the replacement player will be. They have KL Rahul, who will probably not play the first couple of games I think… they are awaiting the birth of (their) child, but that dynamic, is really cool,” Healy said.
“They have that power in the young guys but they also have a KL Rahul who can stitch the innings in T20 cricket. He’s going to be really exciting to watch,” she added.
Rahul was bought by the Capitals for INR 14 crore in the IPL 2025 auction after he was released by the Lucknow Super Giants. Meanwhile Rishabh Pant, who led the Delhi Capitals joined LSG for a record breaking price of INR 27 crore.
Harry Brook who joined Delhi for INR 6.25 crores has been imposed ban after withdrawing from the IPL for the second time.
With the KL Rahul was aniticipated to captain the side, Axar Patel was named as the Delhi Capitals captain and du Plessis was named as the vice-captain.
Rahul has amassed 4683 runs in 132 IPL matches at an average of 45.46 and a strike rate of 134.60, including four centuries and 37 fifties.
The Karnataka based cricketer has scored 520 runs in IPL 2024 season at an average of 37.14 and a strike rate of 136.12, including four half centuries.
Delhi Capitals will play their first match of the IPL 2025 campaign against Lucknow Super Giants on March 24 at ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium.
