“Going To Work” SRH Coach Daniel Vettori Defends Aggressive Style After Defeat Against Gujarat

SRH head coach Daniel Vettori has backed his side’s aggressive style despite suffering back-to-back defeats in the ongoing IPL 2025 season.

He insisted on adopting the style aiming to succeed again with a better reading of conditions moving forward even after facing a fourth loss in the IPL 2025 against Gujarat Titans on April 06.

While Vettori acknowledged the pressure and ramifications of losing four back-to-back matches in the tournament, he emphasised the better assessment of conditions than they have done so far, their aggressive approach will work yet again like last year.

After finishing runners up in the last season, things haven’t been far successive in IPL 2025 after losing four out of five matches this season.

Speaking at the post-match conference, SRH head coach Daniel Vettori reflected on his side’s disappointing campaign, but also hopes in their aggressive approach that took them to the IPL 2024 finals.

“I think we know the style is going to work, but we have to respect conditions, and we have to assess really well and that’s probably something we haven’t done. Also, [we] have to respect how well other teams are bowling, putting a lot of planning into our top three and they haven’t been able to execute it at times,” said Daniel Vettori.

“I don’t think Pat [Cummins] has ever panicked in his life and I think I’m pretty similar. But we understand the ramifications of losing four in a row and how difficult it makes the season. It’s tough because obviously you come into the season with high expectations after [finishing as runners-up] last year and then a very good start,” he added.

SRH had built a strong reputation for terrorising other teams’ bowling attacks in the IPL due to their fiery batting power since last season, the same has been one of the major concerns for the side this season.

After the batting struggles, their bowling turned out much of the same as GT chased down the target with rather ease. The likes of GT skipper Shubman Gill’s unbeaten 61, Washington Sundar’s anchoring 49 and a fiery finish from Sherfane Rutherford made SRH to stand at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table.

Sunrisers Hyderabad will play their next match against Punjab Kings on April 12 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
