IPL 2022 MI Squad
IPL 2022 MI Squad with New Signings in Mega Auction

IPL 2022 MI Squad: The five times IPL champions Mumbai Indians is considered as one of the best teams in IPL will not look to change their core players who have won the trophies as a pack.

Mumbai Indians failed to enter into the IPL 2021 playoff but it won’t make the team to look for a new set of players.

MI IPL 2022 Auction Stats

IPL 2022 MI squad: Rohit Sharma will be the first name to fill in the card of IPL 2022 MI players retaining list. The “Hitman” will be the new T20I skipper for team India as Virat Kohli stepped down from the T20I captaincy role post the T20 WC 2021 match against Namibia.

On considering this with Rohit Sharma’s record list MI will not dare to lose their all-time favourite skipper.

A source claims that “Hardik Pandya is unlikely to be retained by Mumbai Indians for IPL 2022. Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Kieron Pollard could be MI’s retentions”.

  • Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Kieron Pollard are set to be retained by Mumbai Indians – chances of Ishan Kishan being retained is high for his wicketkeeper cum aggressive opening batsman role.

New Players signed by MI for IPL 2022

IPL 2022 MI squad: On considering the possible retention(discussed below) MI might lookout for an all-rounder who can join hands with Pollard in the middle order. On the other hand, if MI releases Hardik Pandya for sure they will seek a perfect all-rounder who can be the additional bowler for the team.

Players retained by MI in IPL 2022

IPL 2022 MI squad: As above mentioned if Mumbai Indians don’t show interest in picking Hardik Pandya then the Mumbai-based franchise will retain the following players.

It is almost impossible for Mumbai Indians to look beyond Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah as they are the main pillars of the team in their perspective roles.

Ishan Kishan

Mumbai Indians will definitely retain Pollard who is the best all-rounder they had in their pool. For the remaining Indian player retention, Mumbai Indians will look to retain Ishan Kishan who plays as wicket-keeper batsman position.

Set 2

On the other hand, Mumbai Indians will not dare to lose their inform batsman Suryakumar Yadav who scored 317 runs in IPL 2021 tournament on playing all 14 league matches.

Since 2018 Suryakumar Yadav plays a key role in Mumbai Indians batting unit. Check out his performance of the last four IPL seasons below:

If Mumbai Indians decide to retain Suryakumar Yadav they have to release Ishan Kishan. Once Ishan Kishan comes under the auction hammer CSK will definitely put all its effort to rope him as the replacement for MS Dhoni for future CSK.

Set 3

If Mumbai Indians seek to fill the list of retained players with an Indian all-rounder, MI has no other option than to retain Hardik Pandya. But Hardik Pandya has not been bowled a single ball in the IPL 2021 and in IPL 2020. Hardik also had a poor contribution with the bat in IPL 2021.

Hardik scored only 127 runs on playing 12 matches in IPL 2021 which is an unacceptable performance for a class player like him.

Set 4

But in case Mumbai Indians decide to strengthen their bowling unit with an Indian bowler then its hard to look beyond Rahul Chahar. Chahar bags 13 wickets by playing 11 matches in IPL 2021 with an economy rate of 7.39.

IPL 2022 MI Retention – 2 Indian Players with 2 Foreign Players

If MI decides to retain players in 2+2 format that is 2 Indian players with 2 foreign players then the following will be the possible IPL 2022 MI retention:

Set 1

As discussed above it’s hard for Mumbai Indians to release Rohit Sharma and Bumrah, so keeping them in the squad with Pollard, retaining aggressive fast bowler Trent Boult will be the first choice of IPL 2022 retention for Mumbai Indians.

Trent Boult picked 13 wickets on playing 14 matches in IPL 2021 with an economy rate of 7.90.

Set 2

Keeping the same Rohit, Bumrah, Pollard combination MI might seek to retain Quinton de Kock who scored 297 runs in IPL 2021 with a strike rate of 116.01.

de Kock has scored 529 and 503 runs in IPL 2019 and IPL 2020 seasons respectively.
