Australian Cricket Awards 2025 Voting Process
- Votes are weighted to decide the winners of the Allan Border Medal and Belinda Clark Award, to ensure players from all three formats have a fair chance of winning the award.
- Votes polled in Test matches are weighted to be worth twice as much as votes in an ODI fixture, and three times as much as T20I votes.
- This is the same across both major awards and is designed to reflect the primacy of the long-form game while also recognising performances across all formats.
- The voting process is ever so slightly different between men’s and women’s cricket, however.
- For the men, every squad player casts their own 3-2-1 vote after a match, which is then tallied to get an overall players’ 3-2-1 vote for that game.
- A member of the media – rotated on a match-to-match basis – submits their 3-2-1 vote, while the match officials crew collaborate and submit a 3-2-1 vote. These two votes are then combined to get an overall independent 3-2-1 vote.
- For the women, the same process applies for the players, media and match officials, but there’s an extra layer to the independent vote – that is derived from an aggregate of the media and match officials’ vote as well as votes from the head coach and the selector(s) present at the match.
- For both male and female teams, the final match vote is a combination of the players’ overall vote and the aggregated independent vote.
What about tiebreakers?
- When the total number of aggregate votes is tied, the auditors go to a countback and have a formula of ‘performance points’ to break the deadlock.
- Each run is worth 1 point, each wicket is worth 20 points, while a catch, a stumping or a run-out assist are each worth 10 points.
- The player with the greater number of performance points then gets the higher value vote for the game.
