The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Groups set the tone for a tournament packed with intensity, rivalries, and global ambition. As teams are divided into fiercely competitive groups, every match becomes a stepping stone toward knockout glory.

Recently, Bangladesh, who has been originally qualified for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka, has pulled out of the tournament with the sports governing body naming Scotland as the replacement.

This happened because Bangladesh refused to travel to India, citing security reasons, after KKR removed Mustafizur Rahman from their IPL 2026 squad due to political tensions.

On the other hand, Pakistan is also on verge boycotting the tournament, however the side is yet to make official decision on their tournament stance.

As per the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 schedule, the first match will be played between Pakistan and the Netherlands on February 07 at the Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo.

With only weeks available ahead of the tournament, national cricket board have started announcing the T20 World Cup 2026 squads and Jerseys for the marquee event.

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Groups

A total of 20 teams have been divided into four competitive pools as part of the T20 World Cup 2026 groups, setting the stage for an intense and evenly balanced tournament.

A total of 55 games will be played to determine the champions in the T20 format.

In addition to the two hosts, the top 7 teams from the previous tournament automatically qualified, as did the next 3 teams in the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings. The remaining 8 teams were decided via a regional qualification process.

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Format 

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 will follow the group stage, Super 8s and knockout stage format.

• The qualified 20 teams will be divided into 4 groups of five teams.
• The top 2 teams in each group will advance to the Super8 round.
• The qualified teams will be categorised into 2 groups of four teams, where the top 2 teams from each group will qualify for the knockout stage.
• In the knockout stage, a total of 2 semifinals and a final game will be played to decide the winner of the tournament.

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Teams

The two hosting nations, along with the top 7 teams from the previous edition of the tournament, have qualified automatically for the tournament.

The remaining 3 automatic qualification spots were taken by the top-ranked teams in the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings.

The remaining 8 spots were filled via the ICC’s regional qualifiers – One from the Americas qualifier, two each from the Africa and Europe qualifiers and three from the Asia-EAP qualifiers.
