South Africa is scheduled to play in the 20th match of the ICC World Cup 2023 against England on October 21 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Winning the toss, England chose to bowl where de Kock and Reeza Hendricks opened the innings while Topley opened the bowling attack.

Quinton de Kock was dismissed by Topley for four runs while Reeza Hendricks scored 85 runs on 75 deliveries and was sent out by Adil Rashid. Van der Dussen joined the partnership and helped the side on the scoreboard. He scored 60 runs on 61 deliveries and was sent out by Adil Rashid.

Markram scored 42 runs on 44 deliveries and was sent out by Topley. Klaasen had an impressive knock as he scored 109 runs on 67 deliveries and was sent out by Gus Atkinson.

With Miller’s dismissal for 5 runs by Topley, Marco Jansen scored 75* on 42 deliveries including three boundaries and 6 sixes. By the end of 50 overs, South Africa scored 399 runs losing seven wickets.

South Africa set up a huge score as Australia failed to fold them for low scores. With the target of 400, Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan opened the innings for England while Lungi Ngidi opened the bowling attack.

The openers failed to create an impression as they were sent out with low figures. Jonny Bairstow scored 10 runs on Lungi Ngidi while Dawid Malan was dismissed for 6 runs and Joe Root was sent out for 2 runs by Marco Jansen.

Ben Stokes who made his return for the match against South Africa was dismissed for 5 runs by Rabada. Harry Brook and Jos Buttler scored 17 and 15 runs and were sent out by Gerald Coetzee.

Other batters were sent out with low figures at regular intervals. On the 17th over, England lost eight wickets scoring only 100 runs with the dismissal of David Willey for 12 runs.

Gus Atkinson scored 35 runs on 21 deliveries and was sent out by Maharaj. Gerald Coetzee dismissed three wickets while Lungi Ngidi and Marco Jansen dismissed two wickets each.

By the end, England was folded for 170 runs losing all 10 wickets on the 22nd over. Heinrich Klaasen was named the Player of the Match.

While speaking after the match Klaasen said, One of my best (knocks) ever, I was hitting the ball nicely, this knock will go down as one of my better ones. It was proper heat, saps all the energy out of you. The heat out there was extreme.

They (England) were physically under the pump but a couple of wickets got them back in. Next level (Jansen’s knock). This award needs to go to him (Jansen). He kept me going and pumped me up saying you are not leaving the ground without a 100.

He has been phenomenal and has been batting so well. The runs he scored were so vital for us. That loss (against Netherlands) was a tough one, but we know we are playing good cricket.

One loss doesn’t make us a bad team. Had some chats and our boys bounced back with the training sessions. It was a fantastic performance today,” Klaasen concluded.

South Africa will be playing their next World Cup match against Bangladesh on October 24 at Wankhede Stadium.
