    Young Indian Team Departs to Zimbabwe for T20I Series

    The Young Indian Cricket Team started their journey to Zimbabwe on July 02 to play a five-match T20I series starting on July 06.

    This will be India’s first assignment after becoming the T20 World Cup champions after defeating South Africa in the finals on June 29. With most of the senior players rested, Shubman Gill is set to lead the side to face Sikandar Raza-led Zimbabwe in the T20I series.

    BCCI has shared pictures of the squad departing for Zimbabwe. VVS Laxman, the coach for the assignment has been pictured with Avesh Khan, Ravi Bishnoi, Abhishek Sharma, and Riyan Parag posted by BCCI.

    Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, Rinku Singh, Shivam Dube, and Khaleel Ahmed, who are part of the squad, have been currently in Barbados along with the T20 World Cup winning squad is expected to join the squad directly after they leave Barbados.

    Shubman Gill was part of the reserves for the T20 World Cup squad but was allowed to leave the camp early. He could be expected to join the squad directly from there.

    Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal are the only two to be named in the India squad for the Zimbabwe tour who were part of India’s 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup 2024.

    Following an impressive outing in the Indian Premier League 2024, youngsters Riyan Parag, Abhishek Sharma, and Nitish Reddy have received their maiden call-up for the India squad. But injured Nitish Reddy was replaced by Shivam Dube in the squad.

    With the T20I retirement announcements of Indian senior players Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja, the youngsters will have great opportunities to be dragged into the squad.

    Coming to the tour, the first match of the T20I series will be played on July 06 at Harare Sports Club.
