Yashasvi Jaiswal Smashes Double Century at Vizag Test

The 22-year-old opener becomes the third Youngest Indian to hit a double century in Test cricket during the second Test of England’s India tour in 2024.

The Left-handed batter completed his maiden double century on Day 02 of the second Test in Vizag. He was 22 years and 77 days old when he reached the milestone and became the third Youngest Indian to achieve this feat.

By the end of Day 01, Yashasvi Jaiswal remained unbeaten with a score of 179 runs. While he resumed the innings on Day 02, he smashed his first 200+ score. Rajat Patidar has the second-highest score for India in the second test.

Yashasvi’s score guided the side to set a total of 350+ in the first innings. He has played a total of 6 tests until now and has crossed over 600 runs with the help of two hundred and two fifties.

He smashed his first test century during the first test of India’s West Indies tour in 2023. He smashed 171 in the first innings of the match to help the side win by an innings and 32 runs. To be noted, it was his Test debut match.

After suffering a defeat in the first Test played at Hyderabad Stadium, India is looking for a victory in the second Test to level the series. India had many injury and withdrawal concerns before the second Test.

India chose to bat in the second Test at ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium where the Mumbai Batter is set to bat after the dismissal of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill.

The top-order batters Shreyas Iyer, Shubman Gill, and Rohit Sharma’s dismissal proved the intensity of the England bowlers in the second Test.

In Particular, Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma have been performing low in the first and second Tests.

Raja Patidar scored 32 runs on 72 deliveries during his test debut. Axar Patel and Srikar Bharat scored 27 and 17 runs before their dismissal. India finally scored 336 runs losing 6 wickets by the end of the day 01.

On the other hand, Shoaib Bashir who made his Test debut dismissed two batters in the match alongside Rehman Ahmed who also had two dismissals.

James Anderson dismissed Ashwin and now has two dismissals in the first Innings. India is now down to the last three wickets with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Kuldeep Yadav in the crease while Jasprit Bumrah and Mukesh Kumar are yet to bat.
