Will MS Dhoni play IPL 2024; CSK captain throws major hint on his return

With many questions raised on his retirement from the domestic tournament, MS Dhoni drops hints on his return for the IPL season 2024.

Will MS Dhoni play IPL 2024

MS Dhoni is one of the greatest cricketers who played for India and the only captain to have all ICC trophies including the T20 World Cup, ODI World Cup, and Champions Trophy.

He is also the captain of the IPL franchise CSK and led the team to five victories in the tournament. After the win in the IPL 2023, it was said that the legendary captain might retire from IPL.

But Dhoni hinted that he will return to play IPL 2024 in an interview. When the interviewer addressed him as a retired cricketer, MS Dhoni said that he has only retired from International Cricket.

“As you have retired from Cricket..,” stated the interviewer. “Retired from International Only,” Dhoni replied.

CSK coach Stephen Fleming revealed that Dhoni was recovering from his knee injury during the pre-season camp. But the skipper was often seen with a cap and put it back after the match ended.

After the end of the season, Dhoni underwent knee surgery at a private hospital in Mumbai under Orthopaedic surgeon Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala, who was part of the BCCI medical panel that performed various surgeries for top Indian cricketers including Rishabh Pant.

It was said that keyhole surgery was performed for orthoscopic repair and he has been recovering since then. While spotted at an event in Bengaluru, Dhoni provided his fans with an update on his return for IPL 2024.

“Knee has survived the operation, going through the rehab patch, the doctor told me you would feel much better by November. But no problem in day-to-day routine,” said the 42-year-old.

While CSK beat Gujarat Titans in the finals of the IPL 2023, he answered the question about his participation in the 17th season of the IPL where he said he needed little time to decide on the discussion.

“Circumstantially if you see, this is the best time to announce my retirement. But the amount of love and affection I have been shown wherever I have been this year, the easy thing would be for me to say “Thank you very much”, but the tough thing for me is to work hard for another 9 months and come back and play at least 1 more season of IPL.

A lot depends on the body, I have 6-7 months to decide. It will be more like a gift from my side, it’s not easy for me but that’s a gift. The way they’ve shown their love and affection, I think that’s something I need to do for them,” he concluded.

The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League is expected to be scheduled between 23rd March 2024 and 29th May 2024.
