AUS vs IND 4th Test: India walked out to bat in their first innings where they scored 164/5 by the end of day 02 at Melbourne. Australia won the toss and batter first where Sam Konstas, Marnus Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja scored half-centuries helping the side for a solid start.
Steve Smith scored 140 runs and ensured that Australia reached nearly 500 in their innings. Ultimately Australia were bundled out for 474 runs.
With India losing five wickets before crossing half of the target, India could get bowled out before chasing the target. If India bowled out for low scores there is a possibility for a follow-on in the fourth test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy.
What is Follow-on?
The follow-on rule is applicable only for test cricket. The fule comes to be applicable when the team batting second in a test match fails to narrow the gap between their total and opposition total below 200 runs. In that case, the team with more runs can ask the other team bat again in the match.
India has a mammoth total of 474 runs with the score board pressure on the visitors. India need alteast 275 runs to avoid the follow-on in the match.
Three wickets late in the piece give Australia even more momentum heading into Day Three.
