After aiming for a fiery start, Deepti Sharma-led UP Warriorz lost two wickets to score 41 runs in the powerplay during the WPL 2025 match against Gujarat Giants played on February 16 at Vadodara.
After being put to bat first, UP Warriorz lost both openers Kiran Navgire and Vrinda Dinesh for 15 and 6 by Deandra Dottin and Ashleigh Gardner respectively.
Navgire who aimed for a jumpstart punched 15 runs off 8 deliveries before being sent out on lbw in the last ball of the second over.
After their dismissals, Uma Chetry and captain Deepti Sharma came to bat where they managed to scored 41 runs in the power play.

Ahead of the season, UP Warriorz suffered a major set back with Alyssa Healy opted out of the tournament due to injury. Under the leadership of Deepti Sharma, the side will look to shake off last year disappointment where they failed to make it to the playoffs.
Meanwhile Gujarat Gaints suffered a defeat in the opening match of the WPL 2025. impressive knocks from Beth Mooney (56) and Ashleigh Gardner (79) weren’s enough to gain win for the side.
However, RCB shined with an explosive 93-run partnership from Richa Ghosh and Kanika Ajuja in six overs has helped the side to secure win at Vadodara.
At the toss, UP Warriorz captain Deepti Sharma said, “Would have bowled as well. We have had good practice sessions and good match simulations, so looking forward to playing today.”
“There were plenty of bonding sessions during the camps, so it feels like we know each other’s strengths. Our four overseas are – Alana, Grace, Tahlia McGrath and Sophie (Ecclestone). Debut for Alana King and Kranti Goud.”
