Suryakumar named as ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the year 2023

The International Cricket Council has named Suryakumar Yadav as the Men’s T20I cricketer of the year for the second time mentioning him as “backbone of India’s middle order.” in the format.

Suryakumar Yadav has been quite well during the year 2023 in the T20I format as he had an average of close to 50 with a strike rate of 150. He is currently healing from the groin surgery that he underwent in Germany this month.

With Suryakumar rested during the T20I series during Afghanistan’s India tour 2024, he is expected to be in action to play in the IPL 2024.

“The backbone of India’s middle order got started throughout the year, delivering several match-winning contributions. This is the second consecutive year that the India batter has taken this award home,” the ICC stated.

His notable knocks of 83 (44) against the West Indies in Providence and his knock of 61 (45) in Florida have proved his class. He smashed 112 runs against Sri Lanka including 9 sixes and seven fours.

“Yadav flourished despite the burden of captaincy, taking the reins of a young side towards the end of the year,” the ICC stated.

He knocked half-centuries against Australia 80 off 42 balls and South Africa (56 from 36 balls). He also smashed a century against South Africa in just 56 deliveries in the final T20I match of India’s South Africa tour.

Other remarkable knocks are 83 (44) against the West Indies in Providence and his knock of 61 (45) in Florida have proved his class. He smashed 112 runs against Sri Lanka which included 9 sixes and seven fours.

The ICC has awarded the New Zealand player Rachin Ravindra with ICC Emerging Player of the Year 2023.
