    Former Australia Cricketer Stuart MacGill Found Guilty of Cocaine Drug Deal

    Former Australian cricketer Stuart MacGill was found guilty of facilitating a drug deal between a dealer and his partner’s brother.

    A Sydney District Court jury acquitted the 54-year-old leg-spinner of facilitating a one-kg cocaine deal worth AUD 330,000 in April 2021.

    However, MacGill had denied the claims saying he only introduced the two parties, but the jury found him guilty.

    It took the jury about seven hours of deliberations to find the former cricketer not guilty and he was cleared of the charge on supply of a large commercial quantity of a prohibited drug.

    Stuart MacGill pleaded not guilty and his defence lawyers casted doubts on person A’s credibility, arguing his conduct was deceptive and dishonest in multiple respects.

    The jury did not agree to MacGill’s claims, saying that it is not possible that such a big deal took place without his knowing, however, it acquitted him of being involved in the one KG cocaine deal.

    He was convicted of the charge of taking part in drug supply. MacGill who played 44 tests for Australia, ‘showed little emotion’ as the verdict was read, according to a reports in Australian media.

    He remains on parole after receiving a 50 percent discount on his sentence which was set at three years and three months, with a non-parole period of 20 months. The court was told MacGill introduced his regular drug dealer to his close relatvies Marinos Sotiropoulos at his restaurant in Sydney.

    MacGill has played 44 tests for Australia under Shane Warne between 1998 and 2008 picking 208 wickets in his career. He also 4 ODI matches for Australia in which he took 6 wickets.

    Apart from international Cricket, he has taken 774 wickets in first class cricket. Apart from this, Stuart MacGill also used his spin magic in List A matches and has 194 wickets in the format.
