The Aussie batter Steve Smith has completed 10,000 test runs and becomes the fourth Australian to achieve the feat.
He completed the feat during the opening test of the Australia tour of Sri Lanka 2025 at Galle where the crowd erupted in applause with Sri Lankan players also congratulating him on his historic achievement.
The veteran batter joined an elite group of cricketers that includes legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting and Brain Lara.

He also become the 15th player in the test history to surpass 10,000 run mark and fourth from their country following Allan Border, Steve Waugh, and Ricky Ponting.
He reached the milestone in just 115 tests and 205 innings, making him the third fastest player to achieve the feat. The fastest remain a three-way tie between Brian Lara, Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara, who all reached the landmark in 195 innings.

Among active players, Steve Smith ranks second behind Joe Root who has 12,972 test runs. Smith had been struck with 9999 runs following his dismissal in Sydney during the final test against India.
Smith is one of fab four (Virat Kohli, Joe Root, Kane Williamson and Steven Smith). Smith Currently has 34 test hundreds and 41 fifties.
Meanwhile, Only three Indian cricketers Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Sunil Gavaskar are the ones to complete the feat.
Out of all Sachin Tendulkar holds records for being the fastest Indian to score 10,000 runs. He took just 195 innings to reach the milestone. Further, overall, he is the joint fastest to 10,000 test runs alongside Brian Lara and Kumar Sangakkara.
Australia chose to bat first where Travis Head and Usman Khawaja made a 92 run stand for first wicket. They went on to cross 200 runs in the session 02 of Day 01 at Galle.
