Former India all-rounder Sridharan Sriram has signed the five-time Champion CSK as their assistant bowling coach ahead of IPL 2025.
Sriram joins a coaching team that includes Stephen Fleming (head coach), Mike Hussey (batting coach), and Eric Simons (bowling consultant).
Sriram will bring him a wealth of coaching experience at various levels. He will be replacing Dwayne Bravo at CSK who joined defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders as mentor.
He served as Australia’s assistant coach from 2016 to 2022, before joining Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). In August 2022, Sriram was also appointed Bangladesh’s T20 consultant ahead of the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup.
In September 2023, he joined Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as assistant coach for IPL 2024, and also returned to Bangladesh – this time as technical consultant before the ODI World Cup.
Say Yellove to our assistant bowling Coach Sriram Sridharan! 💛💪🏻
Brought up from the tracks of Chepauk to a packed portfolio of coaching tenures in Australia and Bangladesh, he embarks on this new
journey with the pride! 🦁🥳#WhistlePodu #Yellove 🦁💛 pic.twitter.com/adrzPFnwlq— Chennai Super Kings (@ChennaiIPL) February 24, 2025
Sriram will work with CSK’s highly experienced spinners like Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Shreyas Gopal with Deepak Hooda capable of bowling handy part-time off-spin.
CSK also have Afghanistan’s wrist-spinner Noor Ahmead and New Zealand’s left arm spin all-rounder Rachin Ravindra in their ranks for IPL 2025.
Sridharan Sriram represented India in 8 ODI matches between 2000 and 2004. In the domestic cricket circuit, as a left handed batter and left-arm spinner, Sriram turned out for Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Himachal Pradesh, amassing 9539 runs in 133 first class matches and picking 85 wickets.
CSK missed the knock out chances last year as they finished fifty with seven wins in their 14 group matches. Despite they were level on 14 points with fourth-placed RCB, CSK’s inferior net run-rate meant they fell jus short of making it to the final four.
Chennai Super Kings will open their campaign against fellow five-time IPL winners Mumbai Indians on March 23 at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.
