    Dilshan Madushanka Set to Miss Asia Cup 2023: Ahead of the Asia Cup 2023, the Sri Lanka cricket team faces another blow after their left-arm pacer Dilshan Madhushanka becomes another casualty ahead of their title defence.

    Dilshan Madushanka Set to Miss Asia Cup 2023: The 16th edition of the Asia Cup tournament is scheduled to play between August – September and will be jointly hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Asia Cup 2023 will also be the first of its kind to be co-hosted by multiple countries.

    Four matches of the Asia Cup 2023 will be played in Pakistan while the remaining nine matches of the tournament will be played in Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan cricket team will play 2 group matches against the remaining teams of their group – Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

    The co-host of the Asia Cup 2023 Sri Lanka will play their first game of the season against Bangladesh on August 31 at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Kandy.

    According to top sources at Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), Madushanka has a muscle injury to his lower abdominal area and has been advised to rest ruling him out of the Asia Cup.

    The source added that the bowler is also set to fully miss the tournament along with Dushmantha Chameera, Lahiru Kumara and Wanindu Hasaranga. He will have to be rehabilitated and may be considered for the World Cup 2023 in India if he is recovered.

    It is also understood that Kusal Janith Perera, who was diagnosed with Covid-19 is likely to join the squad later.

    Sri Lanka has already picked Kasun Rajitha, Matheesha Pathirana and Pramod Madushan as the main fast bowlers for the tournament. Fast bowlers Binura Fernando, Asitha Fernando, Chamika Karunaratne and Nuwan Thushara are considered to replace the injured Dilshan Madushanka.

    It is learned that Asitha Fernando and Dushan Hemantha have been added to the 15-member Sri Lanka squad for the upcoming Asia Cup. With only two days to go for the tournament, Sri Lanka are yet to name their squad.

    There has been no change in most of the support staff except there will be one fielding coach. Manoj Abeywickrama who was a second fielding coach when the home team last played against Pakistan has not been with the team to Kandy. Only Anton Roux will be in charge of the fielding coach for the team, it is understood.
