“Spin will play a big part,” Michael Atherton’s prediction on IND vs ENG Test series

The former England Captain Michael Atherton has made a major prediction on the upcoming five-match Test series against India.

Michael Atherton’s prediction on IND vs ENG Test series

The cricketer-turned-commentator has predicted that India will win the test series against England on the home ground saying that the England spinners are no match for the Indian spinners unit which consists of Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav.

The Men in Blues are scheduled to play a five-match Test series in England’s India tour starting next week.

India has 16 consecutive wins in the home Test series against England after they suffered a defeat in the 2012 season.

on this occasion, Atherton told the media, “I think India will win. Their spinners are better than England’s, and that will be the defining thing in the end. If you go to India, spin will play a big part. It historically has done, and I suspect it always will do. India does have a very strong seam attack as well.”

Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel had 32 and 27 wickets when India won the test series in season 2020-21. Ashwin has a total of 88 wickets in 19 Tests against England. He is only 10 wickets behind to complete 500 test wickets.

The former skipper feels that England has a good left-arm spinner Jack Leach, but the other three lack experience.

“England has a solid left-arm spinner in Jack Leach and then three very inexperienced spinners after that with Tom Hartley, Shoaib Bashir and Rehan Ahmed.

“It will be a particular challenge for them but the selectors see a high ceiling for them.”

Jack Leach has 18 wickets in four Tests during the last Test series against India. He will look to perform more in the upcoming Tests.

The opening Test of England’s tour will be played on January 25 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
