The New Zealand captain Sophie Devine has been missing the final T20I match of the home tour against England due to her quad injury during the fourth T20I played on Wednesday.

NZC has said that scans has confirmed a grade one strain which would require a short period of rehabilitation and will stay with the side “undergoing a rehabilitation programme”.

Her inclusion in the squad for the upcoming ODIs will be determined only after that. Georgia Plimmer who was with New Zealand A squad has been brought into the squad as a replacement.

“We’re obviously disappointed for Sophie, but the focus is now to make her available for as much of the ODI series as possible,” New Zealand head coach Ben Sawyer said.

“Sophie will be monitored over the next few days and that will give us a better idea of what her availability is before the first game on Monday.

“The ODI series is an important series for us with ICC ODI Championship points on the line so we’re hopeful that Sophie will make a quick recovery.”

She will be wanted in the ODI squad which is set to begin after the end of T20I series. She scored 77 runs in two innings at a strike rate of 150.98 and picking up four wickets.

Sophie Devine was one of the player who missed the first part of the T20Is to participate in the WPL 2024. She was part of the RCB squad which won their maiden IPL title in women’s category.

Meanwhile, Amelia Kerr who also played in the second edition of WPL league also missed the first T20I. Hence Mikaela Greig, had been called up to the squad for that game.

With England women secured the series win 3-1, the fifth T20I match will be played on March 29 at Basin Reserve.
