Simon Doull returns to PSL 2024 commentary Panel

The Pakistan Cricket Board has revealed a star-filled commentary Panel for the upcoming PSL 2024 season which is set to begin this weekend.

The players around the world are gearing up for the 9th edition of the Pakistan Super League. The tournament which had its inaugural season back in 2016 has gained a lot of prominence around the world.

With only four days ahead of the season, the PCB has announced the commentary panel which included some local names for the country’s domestic league.

PCB chief Ramiz Raja along with his former teammates Waqar Younis Sohail and Bazid Khan are included in the commentary panel.

Along with them, Pakistani women cricketers Sana Mir, Urooj Mumtaz, and Marina Iqbal are included in the squad.

The former New Zealand fast bowler Simon Doull has been included in the panel who was criticized by the fans for commenting on Babar Azam during the PSL 2023 season.

Despite having issues with Pakistan fans, PSL organizers have decided to bring Doull back as one of the foreign commentators for the T20 league.

The first match of the PSL 2024 schedule will be played between Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United starting on February 17 at Gaddafi Stadium.

Simon Doull’s criticism of Babar Azam

During the second test on England’s tour of Pakistan in Karachi, the New Zealand commentator commented on the Pakistan Cricket Board and Babar Azam for the poor pitches.

He went too far saying that Babar has decided to play on lifeless surfaces to improve his stats. “Where does that directive come from? Does that come from Babar, who wants to bat on a road and improve his own stats? Does it come from above him?”  Simon Doull had said it live on air.

During the PSL 2023, he lashed out at Babar Azam once again calling him a selfish player and playing for his stats instead of his team.

“Rather than putting the team first… the last little while, that’s all that been happening. Rather than looking for boundaries, still so much firepower to come. Hundreds are brilliant, stats are great, but it has to be team first,”
