The BCB has revealed that Shakib Al Hasan is expected to be available for the second test of the Sri Lanka tour of Bangladesh in 2024.

Shakib Al Hasan Likely to Play in Second Test

Before the ongoing test series, The Bangladesh Cricket Board has revealed that the all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will be missing the test series against Sri Lanka.

However, he changed his mind and now informed the board that he wanted to play the second test on the home tour.

While speaking at media BCB official said, “We are expecting him to be available during the second Test against Sri Lanka as he wants to play the game. I think there is still time for him to prepare fully for the game,” on Friday.

The return of Shakib to the squad will boost the strength of the hosts as Mushifiqur Rahim was ruled out of the series due to a thumb injury.

Mushfiqur Rahim had ruled out of Sri Lanka tests after he sustained a thumb fracture during the third ODI on the home tour. He sustained an injury from Taskin Ahmed’s delivery on his right thumb during his wicketkeeping duties.

The team’s physio worked on his injury before he resumed the match and smashed an unbeaten 37 runs where the side won the match to clinch the series 2-1.

Shakib last played a Test match in April 2023 when he featured the side against Ireland on a home tour. Shakib Al Hasan has played 66 Tests, 247 ODIs, and 117 T20Is and amassed 14406 runs in his career.

Shakib recently joined Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club to play in the ongoing Dhaka Premier League to get some experience before returning to his international career.

Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are currently playing in the first match of the tour with Bangladesh trail by 248 runs. Bangladesh will be playing their second test against Sri Lanka on March 30 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
