The Netherlands is scheduled to play in the 15th match of the World Cup 2023 against South Africa on October 17 at HPCA stadium.

During the match, the Netherlands skipper Scott Edwards had an impressive knock of 78* on 69 balls and helped the side set a decent target for their opponents. The innings were reduced to 43 overs for each side as rain delayed the start.

Winning the toss, South Africa chose to bowl where Vikramjit Singh and Max ODowd opened the innings while Ngidi opened the bowling attack. The openers failed to have a good start for their side as Vikramjit was sent out by Rabada with two runs. Marco Jansen dismissed Max Odowd with 18 runs. With the dismissal of Bas de Leede for two runs by Rabada, Ackermann scored 13 runs and was sent out by Gerald.

With the dismissal of Sybrand by Ngidi for 19 runs and Teja for 20 runs by Marco Jansen, Netherlands was down to 6 wickets scoring only 112 runs. It was from the efforts of Edwards, the side was able to get back into competition.

Other batters were not able to withstand the bowling attack of South African bowlers and were sent out on regular Intervals. By the end of 43 overs, the Netherlands scored 245 runs losing 8 wickets.

With the target of 246 runs, South Africa’s Bavuma and de Kock opened the innings while Aryan Dutt opened the bowling attack. South Africans were impressive during their first three matches in the World Cup 2023 and crushed their opponents with an aggressive batting performance.

But their batting order collapsed in this match, as Bavuma was sent out with 16 runs by der Merwe, and de Kock was sent out with 20 runs by Ackermann. Markram and van der Dussen were sent out with single figures.

With the collapse of van der Dussen, South Africa was down to four wickets scoring only 44 runs. Klaasen helped the side by contributing 28 runs to his side before being sent out by van Beek.

On this occasion, Scott Edwards showed one of his best batting performances scoring 78* runs by which he stands third in the list of highest scores by Netherlands Captains in ODIs. He was awarded the Player of the Match award.

While speaking after the match Scott Edwards said, “Over the last couple of games too many of our middle order batters were being out before the end of the game, so I wanted to take it deep and hope a couple of guys around me chip in and we are lucky enough to get that score in the end.”

“He’s (Roelof van der Merwe) good fun to bat with, he runs hard and hits into some strange areas which is good fun to watch from the other end. I just got him (Aryan Dutt) on strike and he was clearing the ropes, he’s got the talent and it’s all there to see tonight.”

“Proud of the group. We came into the tournament where we wanted to have a chance in the semi-finals and if you wanna do that you gotta beat teams South Africa is one of the favourites the way they are playing, so it is a good win for us.”

With this victory, the Netherlands registered their 3rd victory in World Cup match history. The Netherlands will be playing their next match against Sri Lanka on October 21 at Lucknow Stadium.
