As per the IPL 2024 schedule, Rajasthan Royals are scheduled to face Lucknow Super Giants to play the 4th match of the season on March 24 in Jaipur.

With the fifty, Sanju Samson becomes the first Indian cricketer to score a half-century in the IPL 2024 season.

Notably, this will be the 21st IPL half-century for Sanju Samson who nears the 4000 IPL runs mark. It is worth mentioning that the wicketkeeper has also 3 IPL centuries.

Sanju Samson who is still in the race for the Indian wicketkeeper role for the upcoming World Cup 2024 needs to maintain this aggressive style to increase his chances of getting into the national team.

Since 2020, Sanju Samson scored 50+ runs in every opening game in the Indian Premier League.

Sanju Samson in his first match of an IPL season since 2020:

  • 74(32) vs CSK 2020
  • 119(63) vs PK 2021
  • 55(27) vs SRH 2022
  • 55(32) vs SRH 2023
  • 50*(33) vs LSG 2024

Speaking of the game, Rajasthan Royals won the toss and opted to bat first. As expected Jaiswal and Jos Buttler opened the attack while Mohsin Khan opened the inning on behalf of the Lucknow Super Giants.

Buttler who bagged the orange cap for the IPL 2022 season failed to make an aggressive start. After hitting a couple of boundaries in the 2nd over, Buttler was dismissed by Naveen-ul-Haq.

Naveen-ul-Haq bowled a fuller length delivery just outside off which gets a thick edge and lands in KL Rahul’s glove behind the stumps. Mohsin Khan dismissed the dangerous Jaiswal in the final ball of the 5th over who scored a six of the previous delivery.

Riyan Parag who scored 1130 runs in 32 innings at an average of 47.08 while playing at no. 4 in SMAT scored a descent 43 runs off 29 balls in his outing for the RR.

As of now, Rajasthan Royals scored 158 runs for 4 wickets loss at the end of 17 overs where skipper Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel stand in the crease with 62 and 8 runs respectively.
