Sanju Samson Ruled Out of 2nd T20I Against Sri Lanka

Sanju Samson Ruled Out of 2nd T20I Against Sri Lanka: Indian wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson has been ruled out of the remaining T20I matches of the Sri Lanka series owing to a knee injury.

Sanju Samson did not travel with the Indian team to Pune, staying back in Mumbai for scans and a specialist opinion, and was advised rest and rehabilitation.

Sanju Samson is believed to have picked up the injury in the 13th over of Sri Lanka’s innings in the first T20I. His knee appeared to have gotten stuck on the turf as he tried to put in a slide at deep third to stop a boundary which made him leave the field immediately.

It was primarily a forgettable game for Samson, as he managed just 5 in India’s two-run victory. Earlier, he dropped Pathum Nissanka in the first over of Sri Lanka’s chase.

Jitesh Sharma, the 29-year-old wicketkeeper-batter from Vidarbha, has been named Samson’s replacement. Jitesh made his IPL debut in 2022 playing for Punjab Kings. Jitesh played 12 matches, scoring 234 runs at a strike rate of 163.63, with a highest of 44.

He also scored 224 runs in ten matches at a strike rate of 175 in the 2022 edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

The second T20I match of the Sri Lanka tour of India is scheduled to play on January 5 at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune.
