Youngster Sam Konstas has recently opened up after failing to find a place in the playing 11 of the first test of Australia’s tour of Sri Lanka 2025.
Meanwhile, Travis Head was promoted in the batting lineup to open alongside Usman Khawaja. Konstas was further sent back home to participate in the Sheffield Shield tournament where he would be playing for New South Wales.
He recently shared his thoughts on not getting a chance to play in the ongoing series and said that he was privileged to play alongside big names such as Steve Smith, Khawaja and Travis Head.
“I felt like I was very privileged to be in the squad. And obviously learning from the best players like Steve Smith, Travis Head and Usman Khawaja and how their methods are different in those conditions. I learnt quite a bit.”

“I understood the reasons why. For me, it is just a great learning curve and if I do get another opportunity with the Test team I will grab it with both hands.”
“I understand why Travis Head opened the batting because he is a legend of the game and he has been dominating,” said Konstas.
Young batter Sam Konstas had a terrific international debut in last year’s Border Gavaskar Trophy.
The 19-Year old made 113 runs it two matches and batted aggressively mainitaining an average of 28.25 and a strike rate of 81.88, which put pressure on the visitors and more so, he even counterpart India’s ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah.
Australia’s plan in the promoting Travis Head has proved to be successful as they registered a 92-run stand in the first test. Head who usually bats at No.5 in tests was promoted to the order as the cricketer has a stunning record playing in the sub-continent.
Speaking about the chance to play domestic cricket, Konstas remarked, “This is going to be my first time at the Gabba and obviously hopefully (NSW) we will build a bit of momentum and make the final.”
Konstas will play against Queensland in Sheffield Shield that will include Seam-bowling all-rounder Michael Neser, who took 10 wickets in Queensland first two games of the season.
