The Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has posed with the coveted Champions Trophy along with cricketing legends like Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar during the 50th anniversary of the Wankhede Stadium has gone viral.

The Wankhede Stadium’s 50th anniversary had lots of celebrations with Sunil Gavaskar dancing along with singer Shekhar Ravjiani where the Master blaster shared his farewell test moments.

In the video, it can be seen that Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri have been inviting Rohit Sharma to come closer to the Champions Trophy. However, Rohit declined allowing the seniors to take centre stage.

Rohit Sharma stood in the left corner along with the legends posing for the picture. However, the Indian captain has stated his intentions to bring back the Champions trophy back to Wankhede Stadium.

Under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, India celebrated T20 World Cup triumph along Marine Drive in Mumbai.

“We will embark on another tournament. I am sure when we reach Dubai, the wishes of 140 crore people will be behind us, we know that,” Rohit said, evoking cheers from the crowd at the Wankhede Stadium.

“We will try and do everything we can to bring this trophy back here to the Wankhede,” he added.

On January 18, BCCI announced Rohit Sharma-led 15-member squad for the Champions Trophy 2025, starting on February 19.

Shubman Gill was named as the vice-captain of the team, which also includes the likes of Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami.

Rohi Sharma also recalled the bus parade following India’s T20 World Cup win saying he had no doubt that the Indian team would celebrate the victory in Mumbai after their meeting with the Prime Minister in New Delhi.

“I remember, we were still in Barbados after winning the World Cup, and we were stuck there due to a storm, but planning was in process as to what we would do once we were back in India.

“It was planned that we would go to Delhi, but what after that? No one knew what to do after that, but I wanted that World Cup (trophy) should come here to Wankhede.”

“Each of the recent World Cups we have won in 2007 and 2011 has been celebrated at Wankhede, and bringing the trophy of 2024 was also very important for us,” he added.

As per India’s Champions trophy schedule, the Men in Blues will play their all their matches in Dubai after a stance with PCB on not travelling to Pakistan. Being placed in Group A, India will play their group stage matches with Pakistan, Bangladesh and New Zealand.

India’s first match will be against Bangladesh on February 20 at Dubai International Stadium.
