Rahul Dravid was appointed as the head coach of the Indian cricket team on November 2021 replacing Ravi Shatri. A huge expectation has been built around him as team India’s head coach but Dravid fails. Under his guidance, team India lost the majority of series and tournaments.
The 7 times Asia Cup winning team – India made an early exit in the recently concluded Asia Cup 2022. India started the tournament as hot favourites defeating Pakistan. However, they couldn’t win important matches of the super 4 and got knocked out of the tournament.
India qualified for the semi-finals in the 2022 T20 World Cup but lost to England by 10 wickets and was knocked out of the tournament. Post the T20 World Cup defeat, India is expected to regain its form by making a comeback in the Bangladesh ODI format but failed.
India lost the first match of the 3-match ODI series by 1 wicket and breaks the hearts of million. The Indian cricket team was scheduled to play 3 ODIs and 2 Tests during the India tour of Bangladesh 2022.
“I would not say that Rahul Dravid has failed as the team’s head coach. However, some of the experiments and the thinking haven’t been very successful.”
“Unfortunately, for Dravid, a lot of his tactics haven’t reaped dividends. While it is wrong to blame the coach, we have to admit that his stint hasn’t been a very successful one, considering the unfavourable results,” he added.
A report also states that BCCI plans to appoint a new T20 coach and separate captain for the Indian T20I team to reduce the workload.
Prior to his appointment to the senior men’s national team, Dravid was the Head of Cricket at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), and the head coach of the India Under-19 and India A teams.
Under his tenure, the under-19 team finished runners-up at the 2016 U-19 Cricket World Cup and won the 2018 U-19 Cricket World Cup.
The 2022 T20 World Cup champions England follow the same method. They have Brendon McCullum for Test cricket and Matthew Mott for white-ball cricket. The Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes combination scripted a record in the 1st Test match against Pakistan where the team trashed the host by a 74 runs defeat.
Apart from losing the match, Team India was also fined 80 percent of the match fee for maintaining a slow over rate. The second ODI match of the Bangladesh series will be played on December 7 in Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka. While the last ODI match will be played on December 10.
