The England opener Phil Salt made a stunning knock during the 1st T20I game against Ireland on September 17 helping the side to post comfortable 4 wicket victory at Dublin.

His 89 runs off 46 deliveries included a string of 10 fours and 4 sixes hitting the score at a strike rate of 193.48. By this win, Three Lions leads 1-0 in the T20I series on England’s tour of Ireland 2025 with two matches yet to be played.

Putting Ireland to bat first, England bowlers couldn’t able to stop Ireland batters as the side scored 196 runs in their 20 overs.

A decent start from opener Paul Stirling and Ross Adair posting 57 runs for the first wicket and fifties from Harry Tector and Lorcan Tucker went on to push their score close to 200-run mark.

Harry Tector’s unbeaten 61 runs off 36 deliveries and Lorcan Tucker’s 55 runs were enough to trouble England bowlers.

Jamie Overton, Liam Dawson and Adil Rashid picked up one wickets each for England. However, England batters made their contributions and successfully completed the chase in the the 18th over.

Phil Salt’s 89 runs was the highest score for England and Jos Buttler (28 off 10 deliveries), Jacob Bethell (24 off 16 deliveries) and Sam Curran (27 Runs off 15 deliveries) were enough to push the side’s total and march towards victory.

Matthew Humphreys and Graham Young picked up two wickets each but leaking runs in 11.00 and 18.00 has made them quite expensive.

Other than the duo, Harry Tector and Gareth Delany picked one wickets each for Ireland in a losing cause.

Phil Salt was named as the Player of the Match. Speaking at the post match conference, he backed the bowlers for their efforts. “Enjoyed that. Pretty good wicket, it’s a good ground to bat on. It was good fun. That’s the way we play. We try to take on the bowlers pretty early. Looks good when it works. It was a good effort by them.”

“They batted well to get to that total. I don’t have to start thinking like that. Happy to win the first game of the series. They are going to have different plays against us. It’s a game of cat and mouse. It’s a bilateral series,” concluded Salt.

The second match of the series will be played on September 19 at the same venue (The Village, Dublin).
