The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that the opener Saim Ayub is making good progress in his recovery from a right ankle injury and will continue his rehabilitation in England.

According to the statement, it is confirmed that Saim will be sidelined for 10 weeks following an ankle injury sustained during Pakistan’s New Year Test against South Africa in Cape Town.

The Pakistan Board’s statement has potentially ruled Saim Ayub out of the Champions Trophy 2025.

Ayub has suffered the injury while fielding on the day 01 of the Cape Town Test on January 10, when he lost his balance chasing a delivery from Ryan Rickelton and injured his ankle.

Following comprehensive MRI scans X-rays and medical assessments, doctors determined the severity of his right ankle fracture, requiring an extended period of rehabilitation.

“Pakistan opener Saim Ayub is progressing well in his recovery from a right ankle fracture and will continue his rehabilitation in England.”

“Following comprehensive MRI scans, X-rays, and medical assessments, Saim has been ruled out for 10 weeks from the date of injury (3 January).”

“His availability for the New Zealand tour will be subject to clearing all fitness tests and medical requirements,” the PCB statement read.

The PCB remains hopeful that the opening batter will regain fitness ahead of the Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand, scheduled from March 16 to April 05, which consists of five T20Is and three ODIs.

However, his participation in that series will depend on passing the necessary fitness tests and medical evaluations.

“Pakistan will tour New Zealand for five T20Is and three ODIs from 16 March to 5 April, which will be followed by the HBL Pakistan Super League, which starts on 8 April.”

With Pakistan Super League (PSL) set to commence on April 08, Ayub’s return will be closely monitored, as he initially gained prominence during the 2021 edition of the tournament.
