    PCB announcement: Pakistan to play extra T20I matches against New Zealand

    The PCB announces that team Pakistan will play extra T20I matches against New Zealand which is scheduled ahead of the T20I World Cup.

    Pakistan to play extra T20I matches against New Zealand

    The Pakistan Cricket Board had confirmed that their national team is scheduled to play additional T20I matches before T20I World Cup in 2024 which is hosted by West Indies and the USA.

    So, Pakistan will be now playing extra T20I matches against New Zealand at home which has rescheduled the series against West Indies. Now currently Pakistan is playing a test series against Sri Lanka featured on Galle International Stadium.

    As West Indies tour to Pakistan is planned for next February to play two tests which is part of the new WTC cycle. But the additional T20I series had postponed the Pakistan series to January 2025.

    Pakistan will now travel to New Zealand after completing their tour of Australia later this year and play five T20Is, beginning January 12. New Zealand will visit Pakistan in April 2024 to play five T20Is again as a warmup to the T20 World Cup.

    PCB has now confirmed that Pakistan will be playing a total of 19 T20Is ahead of the World Cup. Apart from the 10 games against New Zealand, they will also play three T20Is against the Netherlands, two against Ireland, and four against England.

    As a result of these changes, Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand is rescheduled to be held in January 2025 to play three ODIs and five T20Is has been pushed to April 2025.

    PCB statement on additional T20I matches

    “The Pakistan Cricket Board today announced its men’s side will play 10 additional T20Is against New Zealand in the 2023-24 season as part of its strategic decision to provide the best preparation opportunities for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024,” the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said in the statement.

    “The additional series will mean that in the lead-up to the T20 World Cup, to be co-hosted by the West Indies and the USA in June 2024, Pakistan will play 19 T20Is (10 vs New Zealand, three vs the Netherlands, two vs Ireland and four vs England).”

    To schedule the additional T20Is matches, the PCB has consulted with Cricket West Indies and New Zealand Cricket, and has made slight changes to its Future Tours Program 2023-2025.

    “The two ICC World Test Championship fixtures against the West Indies, originally planned in Pakistan in February 2024, will now be held in January 2025, and likewise, Pakistan’s tour to New Zealand for three ODIs and five T20Is, originally scheduled in January 2025, will now take place in April 2025,” the statement added.
