Bowling coach Morne Morkel has expressed his delight in the return of Mohammed Shami for the fifth T20I ahead of the England tour of India 2025.
Shami who last played for India in the ODI World Cup finals has made his international return during the third match against England.
While he went wicketless he bowled 25 runs in three overs at an economy of 8.33. While speaking in the post-match conference in Pune, Morkel has assured fans that veteran Mohammed Shami is in excellent shape and could feature in India’s playing 11 for the fifth and final T20 against England.
Mohammed Shami has been working hard in practice sessions, with Morkel highlighting his encouraging performances during warmups to ease concerns about his fitness.
“Shami has been bowling really well. Catching to him at the warmups, he is hitting the glove hard. So, very happy how he’s coming along.”

“He’s probably going to get an opportunity for the next game and we’ll see see how things go, but excited to have him back in the group, just for him to share his experience and his knowledge of training as a massive boost for this young bowling unit, so yeah, great to have show me back in the mix,” Indian bowling coach Morne Morkel said.
India’s thrilling victory featured a strong bowling performance by Arshdeep Singh on his series debut, raised further questions about Shami’s absence.
Morne Morkel emphasised that Shami’s role goes beyond just match appearances, as his experience and contribution in practice sessions have significantly benefited the younger bowlers.
Harshit Rana and spinner Ravi Bishnoi has claimed three wickets each to dismantle England’s batting lineup. With already secured 3-1 series win, India will be looking to finish the series on a handsome note in the fifth and final T20I on Sunday at the Wankhede Stadium.
