Opening batter Mitchell Owen’s aggressive century powered Hobart Hurricanes to their maiden title during the BBL 2024-25 season on January 27 at Sydney.
Hurricanes chased the 183-run target in 14.1 overs as Owen’s knock set a comfortable platform for a seven-wicket victory. Owen smashed 108 runs in 42 balls including the tournament’s fastest ever century.
Hobart reached the total with six overs remaining, with Matthew Wade (32 runs off 17 deliveries finishing off the run chase after Owen departed.

David Warner-led Sydney Thunder’s line up was gunned down with ease at Bellerive Oval. Warner’s first stint as captain after his captaincy ban was lifted fell one step short of the glory.
With two centuries in the tournament, Mitchell Owen secured 452 runs in 11 matches and become the most run getter in the tournament.
Meanwhile Jason Behendroff who played for Perth scorchers become the leading wicket taker taking 17 wickets in 10 matches.
Mitchell Owen was named as the Player of the Match and tournament. While speaking in the post match conference, “It’s an amazing feeling, lost for words. Super grateful to all the fans you guys have been great, so loud., thank you very much. Feels like a long time ago.”
“I was just doing what I was enjoying throughout the whole tournament, Luckily it came off tonight as well.”
Meanwhile Nathan Ellis said, “Mitch (Owen) summed it up, pretty surreal. I would like to congratulate the Thunder for a brave season.”
