The MI New York has clinched the MLC 2025 title after a five-run victory over Washington Freedom in the finals played on Monday.

Rushil Ugarkar successfully defended 12 runs in the last over against Maxwell and Phillips. The 22-year-old showed remarkable composure, mixing his pace and finishing the job in the final over.

Trent Boult gave MI New York a dream start picking two wickets in the opening over picking two wickets reducing Freedom to 0 for 2.

However, Ravchin Ravindra and Jack Edwards revived the innings with 70 and 33 knocks. In the final stages of the innings, Glenn Phillips’ emergence threatened MI New York, but the side clinched victory with Rushil’s nerveless.

Glenn Phillips remained unbeaten with 48 runs off 34 deliveries which included five sixes.

Earlier in the match, Monank Patel and de Kock openend the innings while, Netravalkar opened the bowling attack.

The duo gave a solid start of the side scoring 58 runs in the powerplay. However, with the dismissal of Patel for 28 runs, the side started to lose wickets at early dismissals.

Lockie Ferguson dismissed Patel, while Holland bagged the wicket of Dhilon for 14 runs and Netravalkar bagged the wicket of Pooran for 21.

However, Lockie Ferguson dismissed in form de Kock and Pollard in a single over which helped the side to restrict MI New York crossing 200 run mark.

Kunwarjeet Singh’s 22* run has helped the side to post 180 runs in their 20 over innings. Ferguson picked three wickets while Holland, Netravalkar, Maxwell and Jack Edwards bagged one wicket each.

Rushil Ugarkar was named as the Player of the Match. Speaking at the post match conference, he said, “It still is setting in slowly and slowly but really excited. (on the plans for the last over) I told him (Pooran) I know what I’m doing.”

“I felt the wicket was really slow and wanted to make use of the off-cutters. When the tournament started, I kept getting hit but I focussed on my plans,” concluded Ugarkar.
