Jurel has started a successful test debut helping the side to beat visitors in the Ranchi and Rajkot test.

Ahead of the fifth and final test in Dharamsala, the 23-year-old right-handed batter Dhruv Jurel has posted an emotional quote on his X handle saying, “Junior to Senior but always a student of this great man.”

Rahul Dravid was Jurel’s head coach in their Under-19 World Cup winning campaign in 2020 while being the head coach of the Men’s Senior National side.

He was handed his test cap by former Wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthick at Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot before the third test.

Jurel had an impressive start but missed his maiden half-century after being dismissed for 46 runs. After smashing 90 runs in the first innings of the fourth test, he was adjudged the Player of the Match for his aggressive batting performance across two innings.

Jurel secured a 77-run partnership with Kuldeep Yadav during India’s first innings to help the side post 307 runs.

England scored 145 runs in the second inning whereas India needed 192 runs to win the match. Zak Crawley was the only scorer to cross fifty and Jonny Bairstow scored 30 runs in the second innings. Ravichandran Ashwin had a five-wicket haul in the second innings and helped the side.

In the second innings, after the dismissal of Yashasvi, India struggled against England bowlers as they went from 84/1 to 120/5. Shubman Gill and Dhruv Jurel joined forces to lead the side to victory.

He smashed 39* runs in the second innings to help India win the match by 5 wickets. Having played two test matches for India, he will automatically join the BCCI central contract players for season 2023-24 if he features in the final test against England.

After sealing victory in the series, India will be playing their fifth test match starting on March 07 at HPCA Stadium, Dharamsala.
