Bumrah had an exceptional 2024 year where he dominated across formats, notably tests and T20Is while also playing a monumental role in India’s World Cup win in the shortest format.
With 15 wickets at a staggering average of 8.26 and a frugal economy of 4.17, he was named as the 2024 T20 World Cup 2024. His contributions across the tournament were of high impact value, most importantly in the league game against Pakistan and final against South Africa.
“I am truly honored to receive the Sir Garfield Sobers Award, and this recognition means so much to me,” said Bumrah.
“I am grateful to the cricketing fraternity for this appreciation, which I share with India, my family, and my teammates. My focus remains on contributing to the team and striving to achieve our collective goals.
“The year 2024 was incredibly special – winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados and also contributing as much as I could across all three formats of the game.
“I dedicate this award to everyone who has believed in me, the power of hard work and dreams, and to bowlers worldwide who continue to inspire and strive for excellence.”
Meanwhile, Amelia Kerr has been named as the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the year. Kerr beat South Africa skipper Laura Wolvaardt, Sri Lanka captian Chamari Athapaththu and Australia all-rounder Annabel Sutherland to win the award.
