Shubman Gill topples Babar Azam on ODI batter rankings

Babar Azam’s dominance in ODI batter rankings has ended with the rise of Indian star Shubman Gill claiming the No.1 Spot from the Pakistan skipper in the recent MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Batting Rankings.

Despite missing a couple of matches, Shubman Gill rose to the top of the ODI rankings during India’s successful campaign at the Cricket World Cup. He became the fourth Indian batter to obtain the top spot in the ODI batter ranking after Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, and Virat Kohli.

He returned to the side for the match against the rivals Pakistan. He scored 92 runs against Sri Lanka and 23 runs during the match against South Africa last week match and amassed a total of 219 runs in six matches.

On the other hand, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam amassed 282 runs in eight matches during the World Cup tournament and dropped six points below the Indian star. Babar Azam’s reign at the top spot for more than two years has ended due to the rise of the Gill.

Shubman claims the No.1 spot while Indian Star Virat Kohli claims the fourth place in the ODI rankings and is one point less than the third-placed South African Quinton de Kock who scored 543 runs in the World Cup.

Shreyas Iyer jumped 17 places to claim 18th place in the rankings list while Pakistan player Fakhar Zaman claims the 11th spot. Afghanistan Player Ibrahim Zadran claims the 12th spot in the ODI rankings.

There was a major change in the top 10 spots on both batting and bowling ODI rankings during the World Cup where Indian stars shined during the tournament.

Interestingly, Mohammed Siraj climbed to the top spot in the ODI bowler rankings with 10 wickets in the 8 matches they’ve played in the tournament.

On the other hand, there has been a drastic change in the ODI bowler rankings since the start of the World Cup season.  Four Indian players have claimed their spot in the top 10 places during the ICC tournament.

The pacer Mohammed Siraj claimed his No.1 spot while his fellow players Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Shami jumped to fourth, eighth, and tenth place in the bowler rankings.

South African spinner Keshav Maharaj claims the second spot while Australian player Adam Zampa claimed the No.3 spot in the rankings list. Shaheen Afridi drops four places and stands fifth in the list alongside fellow seamer Josh Hazlewood.

Dilshan Madushanka claims 45th place in the list of ODI bowlers, while Ravindra Jadeja claims the 19th spot in the ODI bowler. South Africa left-pacer Marco Jansen claims the 24th spot in the ODI bowler rankings.

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan remains NO.1 Spot in the all-rounder rankings. Despite his early exit in the World Cup campaign due to injury he maintained to crown the ODI all-rounder rankings.

Glenn Maxwell claims the sixth spot on the list after his impressive knock of 201 runs against Afghanistan on November 07 at Wankhede Stadium.
