U-19 Australia team won the World Cup tournament after defeating India in the finals of the 2024 edition to clinch their fourth victory. Mahli Beardman was named as the Player of the Match for his heroic deeds during the match.

Batting first, Australia scored 253 runs in 50 overs losing seven wickets. Harry Dixon, Hugh Weibgen, Harjas Singh, and Ollie Peake are the high scorers for Australia. Harjas Singh smashed a half century to score 55 runs including 3 sixes and 3 fours.

Raj Limbani managed to dismiss three batters, while Naman Tiwari dismissed Harry Dixon and Weibgen. With a target of 254, India opened their innings where Adarsh Singh and Murugan Perumal Abhishek were the only scorers for India.

The men in blues lost wickets at regular intervals which showed the dominance of Australia bowlers in the field. Mahli Beardman and Rafael dismissed three batters each. Finally, India scored only 174 runs losing all wickets in the 44th over.

India’s u-19 team came to the finals maintaining an unbeaten streak of 6 matches in the tournament just like the senior team. Meanwhile, Australia had five victories out of six matches in the tournament and completed the match against West Indies with no result.

While speaking in the post-match presentation, Hugh Weibgen said, “So proud of the boys and our coaches. Everyone was open to batting first, our plan was get a few runs and back ourselves.”

(On Harjas Singh) “He is a quality player, class is permanent. Full credit to the coaches for sticking with him. India is a class side, they dominated the whole tournament, just came the wrong side.”

“I’m sure these guys will do a lot of great things in their career. (On the pacers) They can go so far, as a unit they know their roles so well. I’ll be surprised if the four of them don’t go a long way in their careers,” he concluded.

India is the most successful team in U-19 World Cup history with five wins while Australia rivals India with four victories including the 2024 edition triumph.
