The Mumbai Indians batter Hayley Matthews slammed her 36 ball fifty during the 2025 season eliminators match against Gujarat Giants Women on March 13 at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai.

Her fifty comes with a magnificent six in Tanuja Kanwar’s delivery which included 8 fours and 1 six. In 27 WPL matches, Matthews scored 678 runs at an average of 26.07 and a strike rate of 120.21.

She also has 37 WPL wickets in the match. Matthews has been a consistent performer in the ongoing season for Mumbai which helped the side.

Batting first, Hayley Matthews and Yastika Bhatia opened the innings for Mumbai while Kashvee Gautam opened the bowling attack. Aiming for a fiery start, Yastika Bhatita slammed 15 runs before being dismissed by Dani Gibson in the fifth over.

Nat Sciver-Brunt joined Hayley Matthews to score 37 runs in the powerplay. However, they went on to score 91 runs in 10 overs stabilising the innings.

With Delhi Capitals securing a spot in the finals, the outcome of the match will get the second finalist of the season. Mumbai Indians has already secured a 9-run victory against Gujarat Giants in the league stage matches and it will be interesting to see if they can replicate their win.

Speaking at the toss GG Women captain Ashleigh Gardner said, “We’re going to bowl. It’s another fresh wicket, and we feel that we did a lot of things right the other night.”

“Didn’t get the win, but taking a lot of positives from what we were able to do in the bowling innings. Dani Gibson comes in for Deandra Dottin. It happened five minutes ago because of an injury.”

“Really unfortunate for such a big game, but stoked for Danielle who makes her debut. It’s a pretty cool opportunity and hopefully she can shine. Generally it’s high-scoring. Might be a little bit in the wicket early.”

“Everyone’s super excited. We’ve played some really good cricket in this tournament. Apart from excitement, I’m sure there a lot of nerves as well in the camp as we’ve not been here before.”

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians Women captain Harmanpreet Kaur said, “Yeah it’s a fresh pitch (would MI have bowled first as well?). For us, anything was okay. We have been in this situation twice and know how important this game is.”

“Only thing which works well is when you stay in the moment. One change – Parunika is not playing and Saika is back.”
