Sri Lankan leg spinner Wanindu Hasaranga has come out of the Test retirement and has been included in Sri Lanka’s squad for the Bangladesh Test series. The Sri Lanka Tour of Bangladesh 2024 Test series will form a part of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25.
Wanindu Hasaranga Comes Out of Test Retirement
The first test match of the series will be played between March 22 – 26 in Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Sylhet. The second test will be played between March 30 – April 3 in Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram.
Hasaranga announced his Test retirement in August 2023 in a move to prolong his white-ball career. With less than a year before the T20 World Cup, Hasaranga was named as the captain of Sri Lanka in shortest format games.
With National duties on the shoulder, Hasaranga will miss the initial stages of the Indian Premier League(IPL) 2024 that will run from March 22 to April 3.
Sunrisers Hyderabad who bagged Hasaranga at his base price of INR 1.5 crore in the IPL 2024 Auction will be without the service of the Sri Lankan leg spinner for the first three games of the season.
As per IPL 2024 SRH Schedule, the team will play their first 4 games of the IPL 2024 first phase on March 23, 27, 31 and April 5. With a day between April 3 and 5, his participation in SRH’s fourth game also remains doubtful.
Speaking on the series, Sri Lanka won the 3-match T20I series by 0-2 while Bangladesh won the 3-match ODI series by winning the 1st and last matches of the series.
